VIDEO: Pitchpole de Figaro!

The French dig single- and short-handed ocean racing, which means they love the Figaro, a one design class that has been around since the early 1990s.

The latest version was designed by Marc Lombard and is built by Beneteau. These 33-foot racing machines can plane on a reach or downwind, but they are also stout enough to take a beating.

Sailing under symmetrical chute in a lively breeze with noted French sailors Xavier Macaire and Yves Le Blevec, a Figaro takes a nosedive in this video, filmed from the trailing RIB.

It looks dramatic, but nothing broke, no one was hurt and they continued the race. Try that on an AC72 America’s Cup catamaran.
