A Californian man fishing with a group from their kayaks came face to face with a shark last Saturday off the San Mateo coast that reportedly bit the bow of his vessel and tossed him into the water.
“When he came up, he thought he had been hit by a boat,” another member of NorCal Kayack Anglerstold the San Francisco Chronicle. “But when he looked, the shark was still on the front of his kayak, latched on, gnawing on the kayak.”
The man then reportedly climbed back into his vessel and the shark released the kayak’s nose shortly thereafter.
The man was not injured in the incident, but witnesses report bite mark some 20 inches in diameter. Some of the bites apparently punctured the kayak as the man reported taking on water on his return to shore.
