Weekend mishaps on the water

Two Illinois men were taken to an area hospital Saturday after the boat they were on ran ashore and ending up nearly vertical on its stern.

At least two men were on the boat when it crashed on the west side of the Fox River. One man was taken by helicopter in critical condition and one man was taken by ambulance in serious condition to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Meanwhile, fuel leakage is a big concern with a 65-foot pleasure boat that ran aground while under tow toward Pleasant Harbor Marina in Hood Canal south of Brinnon, Wash.

An estimated 500 gallons of diesel fuel are aboard the vessel and an unrecoverable sheen was reported to be visible as of daylight Sunday.

All four people involved departed the 65-foot vessel and made it ashore in the skiff.
