Mystic Seaport announced plans to have three wooden whaleboats at New London, Conn., as part of the restored whaleship Charles W. Morgan's historic visit to this Southeastern Connecticut port.
The boats will be available for people to row an authentic Yankee whaleboat, and to observe demonstrations of the whaleboats in action.
For organizations with an interest in traditional vessels and boating skills (and unique boating experiences), use of the Mystic whaleboats can be pre-scheduled for special rowing sessions during these public events.
These sessions will be held in the early mornings and late afternoons on the following dates: May 24 and 25; May 31 and June 1.
On these weekends, the whaleboats will row from New London's City Pier, where the Charles W. Morgan will be docked for final outfitting before embarking on her historic 38th voyage. There will also be educational forums on the dock, and opportunities to tour the Morgan. This marks the first time a wooden whaleship has docked at America's second most productive whaling port in nearly a century.
