MARCH 7 — The Boat Owner’s Association of the United Statesannounced last week its 2006 Top Ten List of Most Popular Boat Names.

“Aquaholic,” which ranked second on last year’s list, pulled ahead this year into the No. 1 spot. The name, which the organization says reflects boaters’ “chronic love for the waterways,” has appeared on the list for five consecutive years. This marks the second time “Aquaholic” has placed first on the list.

“It’s interesting to see how boaters creatively express their passion for the boating lifestyle through the name of their boat,” BoatU.S. president Nancy Michelman says in the release.

The other most popular boat names on the 2006 list are “Second Wind” (2), “Reel Time” (3), “Hakuna Matata” (4), “Happy Hours” (5), “Knot Working” (6), “Life is Good” (7), “Plan B” (8), “Second Chance” (9) and “Pura Vida” (10). “Hakuna Matata” translates to “no worries, troubles problems or cares” in Swahili, the release says. “Pura Vida” in Spanish means “pure life.”

BoatU.S., the country’s largest recreational boat owners association, has compiled the list annually since 1991.
