Widow files suit in boating death

The wife of a police sergeant who died after a boating incident in April on Georgia's Lake Allatoona filed a civil lawsuit against the suspects and the boat's owner, asking for more than $1 million for the loss of her husband and funeral expenses, according to papers filed Monday in Paulding County Superior Court.

The suit claims the skipper is responsible for the death because he was operating the fishing vessel "at an excessive and unsafe speed," while under the influence of alcohol, and failed "to render assistance" after the victim fell overboard.
