A volunteer team of Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboats from Yarmouth, England, battled through rough seas and a Force 10 storm Sunday to rescue a 32-foot yacht and its crew.
The rescue boat Eric and Susan Hiscock was called to assist the yacht, Starburst, which had got into difficulties close to The Needles, a treacherous row of three stacks of chalk that rise from the sea off the west side of the Isle of Wight.
Mechanical and steering problems were to blame. There were six people on board.
Royal National Lifeboat Institution claims to have saved more than 139,000 lives at sea since 1824.
